Vancouver Jet Ski Riders — Nanaimo Ride via Bowen Island
Jet ski ride: around Bowen Island, then cross the Strait of Georgia to Nanaimo. Hang out and sightsee in Nanaimo, then head back.
October 20, 2026 · Strait of Georgia
The day
The day began at the Vanier Park boat launch, where everyone gathered to set out onto the Strait of Georgia. The plan for the ride was simple and open: around Bowen Island, then across the strait toward Nanaimo, with time to hang out and sightsee before the return.
QA Test came along for the ride, joining the group as they pushed off from the launch and headed out onto the water.
The crossing carried them past Bowen Island and out over the strait, with the open water and the coastline giving way to long stretches of sky and sea. In Nanaimo, there was time to pause, look around, and take in the sights before turning back for the ride home.
As the day wore on toward evening, the light over the water turned warm and orange. One photo from the day captured that moment perfectly: a paddler silhouetted against a glowing sunset, the sun low over the strait, its reflection stretching across the calm surface of the water in a long golden path.
The ride ended as it began, back on the water, with the group making their way home after a day spent out on the strait, between the islands and the wide open sea, closing with that quiet, glowing sunset over Vancouver's waters.
