The day
The morning began at the marina, among the rows of white boats reflected in still water. Guests arrived dressed in white, greeting each other on the dock with warm hands and quiet laughter before stepping aboard. One guide lit a small flame in the morning light, and another gathered petals to tuck gently into a friend's hat, marking the start of something unhurried.
Once aboard, the group settled into the deck in a wide circle, sitting cross-legged with the city skyline rising behind them across the water. The guide in white held a small brass figure and spoke to the circle, her voice carrying over the gentle sound of the boat moving through the bay. Hands rested on hearts, bowls were struck softly, and the group breathed together as the boat carried them further from shore.
Between the stillness there was joy — women laughing together near the railing, champagne catching the sunlight, bare feet stretched along the white deck. Friends leaned into each other's shoulders, heads tilted back in laughter, the skyline and marina sliding by in the background. A man in a straw hat and blue-mirrored glasses stood quietly at the bow while a companion rested a hand on his shoulder, watching the water.
As the sun climbed higher, the group returned to stillness once more, sitting together in the circle, eyes closed, breathing in rhythm with the small waves beneath the hull.
By the time the boat eased back toward the marina, the mood had softened into contentment. Guests lingered on the dock, exchanging smiles and parting words, the white boats and calm water holding the quiet end of the day.
